A Trip for Chocolate
Monday Evening
It was a rather pleasant evening in late June, 2003. Around 7:30PM there was a knock at my door. There stood Lori, a young woman I had met the week previous while attending a class on the teachings of one of the Mystery Schools of Ancient Egypt.
Lori joined me for dinner that night as it was evident by her unexpected arrival that we had things to talk about, although at that time neither of us had any idea of how profound an evening it would turn out to be.
Around nine o’clock an urge came over me. I needed or more correctly desired chocolate.
“Lori, do you what to go for chocolate?”
“Chocolate I won’t turn down. Let’s go!”
At the time I was living in a small efficiency one street back from Deerfield Beach, Florida. This little place was my sanctuary for a short while and I loved it.
The short walk to the chocolate place took us along the beach boardwalk. On this warm and pleasant evening there were quite a lot of people also strolling and enjoying the evening well. This is what Florida summer evenings are about!
To the right was the large public parking lot. We noticed somewhat of a disturbance, people milling around something. Lori and I ventured closer and didn’t even need to ask for a passer-by shared his piece of the information.
“There is a dead guy over there!”
“Excuse me, what do you mean a dead guy?” was my surprised reply.
“There is a guy on the ground and he is dead!” the man curtly replied.
Looking across the road, to our continued surprise, people were just walking by, taking a look and then moving on. Not just one or two, but probably a dozen or so in the very few minutes since Lori and I arrived.
“Is anyone doing anything, calling the police?” was my further question to the man
“He’s dead lady, you can’t do anything else for him!”
“Oh yes you can!” was my very direct response, as Lori and I made our way across the street, all the while watching the reactions of the people on the street as they passed by the scene.
Such cold apathy and disconnection from these people, I thought!
In the distance, about 30 yards away we noticed a young man on a cell phone. We approached him to thankfully find out he had just called the police. He went on to tell us he had been driving by and noticed something odd. He drove around the block and the return pass showed him a man on the ground with people still around, doing nothing.
The second drive around the block, returning to the same spot, his heighten awareness showed something was very wrong, the man was still on the ground and no action was happening.
As there was no way to just stop the car and get out he had to make a third drive around and finally park. His fear was realized. A man was indeed dead in the parking lot.
Lori and I have done a great deal of work in the esoteric field. Intuition is our guiding force and it certainly came into play from that moment on.
With absolutely no hesitation, we walked up the ramp to the park bench where the man had been sitting, probably enjoying the summer evening. The reason for his death was not evident, yet we guessed it was from a heart attack. We approached the park bench…
The man was laying mostly on his front, the headphones to his walkman still over his ears. It was obvious he had been there a while for his legs where stiff and slightly bent, reminiscent of the sitting position.
Without a thought or hesitation, I sat on the ground next to the man and placed my hands over his spine. This is one of the positions I would naturally use when doing energy work or Reiki with clients.
“Lori, I feel a vibration coming from his spine. There is still energy in his body. His Soul has not completely departed from the physical body!”
I was shocked but knew what I was feeling was absolutely real.
Lori was standing about two feet to my left, in the area of his feet, holding and honoring his energy field. For the next while, I have no idea how long, we were silent, each doing our work!
The young man was now watching us having no idea what we were doing or why, yet as we would learn later, he knew it was good! Lori and I continued our work as seven to ten minutes more passed before the EMTs arrived. Two young men with their “bag of tricks” in hand walked towards us. We didn’t move.
They never said a word to Lori or me. One man placed the bag on the pavement, knelt down next to the man and began examining him.
My hands were still placed on the man’s spine. By this time there was virtually no detectable vibration, and it was as though all reminding soul vibrations released from him as soon as the EMTs arrived.
The young paramedic was virtually sitting on top of me. I felt his arm touch me. He never looked at me. He never asked me to leave, go away, don’t touch, nothing. He didn’t see me! These EMTs didn’t see me or Lori!
I slowly disconnected from the man and we pulled back about 10 feet and just “held the energetic space” for all at the scene. More minutes went by and the police finally arrived, a policeman, and two policewomen, one black and one white.
As the white policewoman began to tape off the scene, she looked at us and very politely asked us to move a little. “We are holding space for this man” was our response to her.
“I am certainly glad someone is!” was her short and very direct comment. She finished taping off the scene and then we did not see her again. Curious!
Before going any further I do have to say that this entire evening and even the events that followed in the days to come were all totally surreal. We could have been watching a sci-fi movie!
Lori and I continued to be present. The young man with the cell phone was told by police not to leave yet no-one was talking to him. He was still very anxious, so Lori and I spent time just being with him also.
They were now waiting for the coroner to arrive. Twenty feet or so away, the man still lay on the ground uncovered. The policeman stood with his back to the man, rocking slightly in what I would say was discomfort. He rubbed and wrung his hand together from time to time.
The black policewoman stood to the right, not looking at anything in particular but in a sense, she was not present either. It was as though there was a bubble over the entire area and the scenes were being played out on a Holodeck!
The coroner arrived, and with camera in hand he started taking pictures of the scene. We could hear some of the dialogue. “Do you know who he is, how did he get here?”
There was only one car in the parking lot, it had been there when we arrived and it was parked right behind the park bench. Our guess was that it belonged to the man, although from the conversation we were listening to, the police had not yet made that observation. Finally someone saw the car and looked in. It had not been locked as its owner had been sitting right there!
They found the registration names and began their checking. By this time it was well past ten o’clock, and we had been at the scene for over an hour, just being present and holding space.
A car pulled up after another fifteen minutes or so and a couple got out and tried to come forward. The woman was crying and the man was comforting her. There was a conversation with the police and then they left. The young man was still there and still the police had not spoken to him.
“I think it is alright for us to leave now, would you like some chocolate?” I ask the young man. He replied yes and so Lori and I took off for the short walk to the store.
That “all right to leave” feeling was signaled by what could be called a ‘bursting of bubble energy” over the scene, it just cleared!
We turned the corner and walked by the small group of shops. On the right stood two men in discussion, one man was holding a baby of about eighteen months old. We kept walking not listening to what was being said.
About five minutes later with chocolate in hand Lori and I began the return trip to the parking lot to where we had left the young man at the scene. To our amazement the previous scene had changed in the space on 5 minutes. Now the police were present and the first man was now in handcuffs, the EMTs arrived and we watched as the baby was given to one of the paramedics, the same paramedic who attended the dead man, the same paramedic who had not seen me sitting there next to him.
As we walked by I even had to step around the young paramedic and baby. He looked up and our eyes connected. I touched the little one gently, an automatic, motherly compassionate touch, “This is a far better scene than the one you just came from!” were the words that flowed from my mouth, catching us both by surprise. I smiled and we kept walking.
The scene in the parking lot was the same as when we left but without the bubble of energy magic. Just after we got back and gave the young man his share of the chocolate the police gave him permission to finally leave. Lori and I still stayed. The man’s body was still on the ground, still uncovered, and seemingly still disrespected.
We turned at the sound of voices to see, walking in our direction yet stopping short to connect with the police officers, the two young paramedics, the same ones that had attended both previous scenes.
They looked at me and Lori. Their looks were of confusion, that said “what’s going on!”, “I’ve seen you before but I am not sure where or how!”. Lori and I smiled and then knew it was time for us to head home, knowing our very unexpected mission was complete. We would walk back via the beach.
It was now close to midnight and still very pleasant. The soft sand felt good. We walked in silence because we were each trying to process the events for ourselves, and also to tell ourselves that we did not imagine the whole thing.
Just as we passed a large rock there was the sound of something dropping into the water. No sooner had we taken two or three more steps when there in the sand was a sea turtle nest, fresh with warm energy. The plop had probably been mother turtle returning to the sea.
What a night!
The death of a man!
The babe in arms!
And the laying of eggs for future life!
And the human angels that were all around!
Lori and I had much to contemplate, much to learn and thank each other for sharing in such a personal and powerful evening. This was the beginning of the larger lessons on the interweaving of lives and events that I was to learn in a very short time.
Thankfully, I have never had the same intensity of experiences when satisfying my chocolate fix!

Exceptional post but I was wondering if you could write a litte more on this topic? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit more. Kudos!
Have you read the rest of the story….that’s where it get more interesting!
Many thanks for your article! Frankly speaking I have never come across anything that interesting.
So often truth is stranger than fiction!
Thanks for following!
This article sounds well, but how everything is related together?…
Dear Ahmed,
In the next week or so I will work on describing how and why I see the connections in this story, as they relate to the rest of the story.
Thank you for your insight!
Interesting blog how did you find the time to write this.
Bradley,
When the stories are supposed to be written they seem to appear on the page easily and often there is little memory of actually slogging through it….which I attribute to “being in the higher zone”
Thank you!
Aw, this was a really nice post. In concept I want to put in writing like this moreover – taking time and actual effort to make a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and certainly not seem to get something done.
Thank you for visiting….don’t be discouraged, we all procrastinate at times and then the new momentum comes to push ahead!
