Sara – At Sundance Thanksgiving Ceremony, 2002
This experience is about a young woman seven and a half months pregnant. Soon her child would enter this world. I was again honored when Sara asked me to work with her during those sacred days of Thanksgiving.
As with any first-time mother, Sara was in great anticipation, her concerns tinged with fear of the unknown life ahead and the radical changes that would take place for new mother and father.
My work with the energy flow of the body, of the surroundings, and of the people involved always amazed me. In those days and still today, so much of this work defies explanation except for the fact that within my being I understand a greater plan is unfolding. This particular day was no different!
We found a quiet, cool space under the trees. Laid out a quilt and Sara sat down. Then, as is still my custom, I work with the energy fields of the front and back of the body simultaneously. As energy passes through and around the body, I read the flow, connecting with breathe and soul to feel the health and movement of life. Sara was holding onto fear. A couple of days earlier, her doctor had said the baby should be facing the other way, and seemed it was making no attempt to change direction. The concerns expressed had resulted in great anxiety for her.
Generally, I asked no questions or very few questions prior to an Intra-Energetic Alignment session. This may sound odd to some, yet I found that the client’s trust level of me and themselves became greater. I always explained my reasoning. This allowed the client to know that any and all feelings and information they intuitively received during the energy part of the session had not been influenced by my input. Our discussions and my observations later served to be their confirmation.
The first thing I had to teach Sara was to breathe through her whole body, every cell, molecule, muscle, organ and pore and then establish a rhythm. This was crucial as I had felt her baby was “magnetized” to her spine in the reverse position. It was Sara’s fear of not being capable to be the best mother, a fear of the birth process, and not understanding her own power that strengthen the magnetization. To a lesser degree Daniel, the father, his energy and concerns were also present in the equation.
I shared my feelings about her baby being magnetized to her spine and she absolutely understood for that was how it felt to her before we put words to the situation. In fact, her spine was becoming curved and her shoulders carried stress. We continued to concentrate on breathing in and through her entire body, through all the layers and through her baby. Ever so gently resistance changed into acceptance and we all became one with the breath of life, the mother, the baby, the earth, the trees and me. I watched and absolutely marveled at the change in Sara’s skin color and luminance, her relaxed state and a divine peace that came over the whole area.
Her breath was moving both up and down through her entire body now, exiting out through both of her feet, palms and the crown of her head. Suddenly a burst of energy flowed as she experienced a multi-colored fountain flowing through both ends of her body and a brand new energy field surrounded all of us. Sara was elated and her body showed it. Stress, curves, burdens and fear were gone.
What I did not know at the time of choosing the particular site we were sitting in, it had been the exact site of the women’s moon lodge the previous year; we were truly sitting on sacred ground. In sacred Native American traditions, a woman who is in her moon cycle or menses may not enter a mixed Inipi or sweat lodge. It is believed that her creation energy is far too strong and her life blood should be returned to Mother Earth in a sacred and supportive manner, within the women’s lodge. My work with Sara and her baby had definitely been blessed, energized and protected by the wisdom of women from previous years’ of Sundance.
I joyfully received word the following week that Sara’s baby had indeed “turned in the womb” to the correct position for birth. Later, Sara used the breathing exercises prior to and during labor, and fortunately her labor turned out to be very short which is especially unusual with the birth of the first child.
For me this was one more profound learning experience I have had with mother’s-to-be. Not only does mother affect an unborn child, but so do father, all family dynamics involved, relationships with friends and the world at large they all are subjected to. I have had client’s remember “not wanting to be born” because they felt/knew they were not wanted, there was violence, abuse, fear and so on in the world outside the womb, and those energetic memories became imprinted in their cell and soul memories. It is for these very reasons I know it is so important to “resolve our stuff” so as to not pass it on to the next generations. This will help change our world!
